How To Do A Proper Beauty Clear-Out

I recently had a bit of a beauty clear-out and it felt incredibly good to make some space on my already cluttered set of drawers. I tend to forget what I have in my collection or lose interest in some products then buy more without really considering what that will mean for my storage space and maintenance later on down the line. While I tend to have a beauty clear-out once every few months, it isn’t always easy. Half the fun of collecting makeup is that you get to revisit it and rediscover old favourites that bring you joy. However, that isn’t always sanitary and sometimes you just might be holding on to products for their sentimental value rather than how much use you get out of them.

My Most Used Makeup & Skin Care Products This Autumn

I’m always a bit reluctant to write about makeup on my blog because I don’t really know all that much about it and don’t quite feel like it’s always a productive topic to discuss. I often find myself backing away from it because there isn’t much constructive dialogue that can be had about makeup as there can be with topics like mental health or work. However, after suffering from a painful ankle sprain during the second last week of November and not leaving my house for 6 days straight, it suddenly hit me why we as women (and also some men) lean on makeup and find confidence in it at times when you might not be feeling your best.

Big Lashes, Matte Lips

Everyone has a signature look and mine has fallen into the categories of big lashes and matte lips. I just think there is something so classic about the look and so easy to apply in the morning when you’re in a rush or for a night out. It’s also when I feel most confident, highlighting what I believe to be my best facial features, so it’s understandable why I’ve invested a lot in mascaras and lipstick throughout the years. My mom has also always had an obsession with big lashes—the bigger, the better has always been her motto—so I’ve watched her go through various brands and find her favourites that I’ve taken on and appropriated for myself. For today’s post I wanted to talk about a few of my favourite mascaras and lipsticks that help me achieve the big lashes, matte lips look and how I plan to wear it as we dive into the autumn and then winter months.

WHY NYX IS MY NEW GO-TO FOR LIPSTICK

I've always been a MAC girl when it comes to lipstick, however as the years go on I've found myself gravitating towards NYX. Maybe I'm falling for all the hype, but there's usually a reason for why certain brands become popular and I think I've figured out why I've slowly become obsessed with NYX when it comes to lipsticks. As fall approaches I find myself wanting to reach for bold lipsticks more and more and seem to be always reaching for my favourites from this brand despite the many others I own, so I thought it appropriate to write up a little ode to NYX.

4 PRODUCT MINIMALIST MAKEUP

If you're as lazy as I am when it comes to makeup then this is the post for you. Over the past few months/years I've experimented a lot with different products and looks. I've given the winged liner look the good old college try, played around with highlighter (a lot), and occasionally dabbled in eyeshadow looks that are a bit more sophisticated than just one colour. However, deep down I am lazy and frugal when it comes to beauty, so I wanted to find a few products that work for me and that I can always turn to when I need to look put together.

A QUICK, BUT BOLD, NIGHT OUT LOOK/ MINI REVIEW

Recently I've been getting back into the routine of applying makeup. I don't know what it is, but after a few weeks of a bare face, I have the urge to start experimenting with products again just to change up my look. Now that the summer has finally rolled around for us in Toronto, going out at night is a much more common occurrence and that's usually where I've been taking it to the next level these past few weeks. I'm not good at makeup, nor do I claim this post to be a tutorial of any sort, but rather a sharing of a look I think accentuates my features.
