My Blogging Regrets

I’ve been blogging on and off since 2015, but it took me a fairly long time to really focus on growing it as an online platform. While my blog isn’t how I make money, it is necessary for someone who writes for a living to showcase their work and writing style. At the moment, I think I’ve gotten into a pretty good flow with my blog, but there are still many regrets I have about how I’ve treated it in the past. If you’ve gone through a similar blogging journey, I’d love to hear about it because I know I’m not the only one out there that doesn’t really know what they’re doing with their online presence.

Four Ways To Stay Motivated When You Start A Blog

Starting a blog is incredibly exciting, especially if you intend to turn it into a career. But, like with almost everything else in life, it can get tiring, and sometimes even boring, which can cause you to lose motivation. Publishing your first, second, and third posts can give you a huge sense of accomplishment, but once you have to start writing new content every day, it can start to feel like a chore. I’ve gone through this slump many times in my blogging journey. Since you’re reading this, I assume that you’re having some trouble staying motivated, so here are some ideas to help you out.

My Favourite Props For Blog Pictures

It can be pretty overwhelming to start a blog in today's online environment. There are so many established, beautiful looking blogs out there that I'm sure many new bloggers don't really know where to start in order to achieve similar aesthetics. I launched my blog initially in 2015 when the blogosphere as we know it today was really kicking off and then revamped it in 2016 in order to keep up. But, in all honestly, no one is the same, so why should our blogs be?

THE BLOGGING GRIND: WHAT IT'S LIKE TO POST EVERY DAY

As you may have already been able to tell, this past month I have decided to post every weekday. I did this back in March to see if I could do it and what I would feel like after, and since this is the second tome around I thought I would discuss the ups and downs of blogging almost every day. Something comes over me every September where I feel a burst of motivation to get shit done, and this year is no exception. Perhaps it's the years of being in school and being conditioned to think of September as the time for new beginnings. Seeing as fall is my favourite season, it's almost fitting that this would be the time I feel my best and most eager to hustle.

GETTING BACK ON TRACK WITH YOUR BLOGGING AFTER LOSING MOMENTUM

If you've been keeping up with my blog over the last few months you can probably tell that I am not the most organized and consistent blogger out there. I tend to come up with a few topics I want to discuss and then randomly write them a day or two before I am set to publish. And that publish date has changed many-a-times because I never really know when I'll be in the mood to write. However, one thing I can finally admit to myself without feeling any sort of millennial shame is that I genuinely enjoy blogging and doing it as my hobby. It's a great way to relieve stress and fulfill my constant desire to write and write anything.

THE BLOGGER'S JOURNEY & STAYING MOTIVATED

If you've noticed throughout the past few weeks, my blog posts have been sparse and scattered. I attribute this (but will not excuse it) to my transition between jobs as I'm trying to discover what I want to potentially do long term while also making some sort of income in the meantime. During this period in my life, I've learned some valuable lessons about creativity, blogging, and motivation.

HOW TO BLOG WITHOUT BREAKING THE BANK

When I first started blogging I wasn't really sure what I was doing or what blogging even was. I had always enjoyed putting my writing online and getting feedback from other's, but I at that time I didn't understand the potential that blogging provided. From creating an online store to simply writing content and making money (as briefly discussed here), the possibilities within the blogging world are endless.

ARE WE DONE WITH MARBLE YET?

Trends are a big part of the blogging community—of any community really. They can start off innocently enough, presenting a new take on a drab idea, but slowly begin to appropriate the entire sentiment. I feel like the marble trend epitomizes this appropriation and I thought it would be interesting to discuss its role in what is now considered mainstream blogging.

KEY FACTORS OF A LIFESTYLE BLOG FOR NEW BLOGGERS

My integration into the blogging world began when I was in high school. My Writer’s Craft class dealt primarily with posting on a group blog as a means of staying interactive with one another and to share our content. Since then my interest in this platform has grown significantly and I spend a lot of time reading and looking for new blogs. I’m definitely not an expert on the topic, but having my own blog gives me a bit of insight on what goes into creating and maintaining a lifestyle blog, along with the many hours of research I put into it.

THE CREATIVE FREEDOM OF BLOGGING & WHY YOU SHOULD START

I’ve been blogging for about a year and a half now, only recently becoming very motivated to pursue it. In the early stages of Katsomething, I didn’t really know what direction I wanted to take my blog in. Makeup and fashion blogs were very popular and seemed like the best way to go as I watched my peers gain a loyal following for their reviews and suggestions. That seemed like a great community to join, but once I started dabbling in makeup articles, I quickly realized that they weren’t for me. It’s not that I don’t enjoy makeup because I do and wear it practically every day. What I didn’t enjoy was having to write about it. I enjoy reading blogs about makeup, one of my favourites being From Roses, but actually having to delve into the inner workings of products I only pay attention to for a portion of my day seemed laborious.
