Easy And Affordable Ways To Update Your Style
Wow, it’s been a hot minute since I put up a style post. I’m not sure why, but I haven’t been feeling as inspired by personal style as I’ve been in the past. However, one thing that I have been thinking a lot about lately is how I can update my personal style with as little clothes in my wardrobe as possible. I wouldn’t say I’m a minimalist, but I am trying hard to limit the amount of stuff I have, and that primarily means the amount of clothes I buy throughout the year. After having moved my life to England and back to Toronto I learned the value of not having more than you need, so I thought it would be helpful to share my style habits in a post.
Changing Up Your Jewelry
I’ve always worn jewelry and find that it’s the easiest way to change up a simple outfit. Whether you wear a big statement necklace or demure hints of gold really changes the way your personal style is perceived. It gives you much more leeway when it comes to wearing basics regularly and maintaining a small wardrobe that’s sustainable. Recently I’ve been gravitating toward a lot of gold jewelry, which allows me to dress up certain outfits that I may feel are too simple without a chain or hoop earrings. Not only is it more affordable to invest in jewelry, but you can also hold on to it for years without it taking up too much space in your home or while you travel.
Using A Statement Outfit Piece
If you’re someone like me who would rather have a bunch of basic style pieces, then adding a pop of colour to a fairly bland wardrobe is a quick style update. I find a colourful dress or an interesting jacket to be the best additions when you feel like you aren’t really making any changes to your appearance. You might even feel the need to repurchase an old favourite, but this time in a colour that will offer a unique quality when you wear it. Dresses are my go-to statement pieces for summer and purses for winter. They’re both easy to wear and offer some versatility in the long run.
Making Your Makeup The Focal Point
One of my new favourite ways to update my style is by instead using my makeup to change it up. I often keep my daily routine simple, but adding a bold lip or winged eyeliner can really change the overall effect of an outfit. I also find that makeup can feel like taking on a different persona for the day, so it’s fun to play around with varying looks that can completely change the way you feel in a basic outfit and the way you are perceived by others.
