My Makeup Regrets

I haven’t been wearing makeup for that long—maybe since I started university about…10 years ago. Yikes. Anyway, since then I’ve gone through a lot of ups and downs with regards to my application techniques, products I’ve invested in, and mistakes I’ve made. Today I wanted to share a few things that I wish I’d done differently throughout the years and the mistakes I’ve regretted the most when it comes to my makeup.

Not Wearing Moisturizer Under My Foundation

I don’t know when exactly it was that I realized the importance of moisturizer, but for a long time I avoided wearing it under my makeup. I guess I assumed it would make it slip off throughout the day, but on the contrary, it’s helped my foundation and any other cream products sit on my skin better and look a lot more natural on. Seeing as I have dry skin, moisturizer is a necessity at least twice a day, but I only ever wore it before bed which, in retrospect, sounds terrifying.

Not Washing My Brushes Enough

Okay, yes, I still do this, but I have gotten a bit better. I remember going months without washing certain face brushes and that just makes me cringe thinking about it now. As I’ve gotten older and really started to understand my skin and what it likes, I’ve realized that keeping my brushes clean has really helped to limit the amount of pimples I get throughout the year. I’m sure there will be weeks where I forget or just can’t be bothered to sit and wash all my brushes thoroughly, but at least now I know that it’s wrong not to and not completely oblivious to it.

Not Throwing Out Expired Mascara

Fine, yes, I also still do this, but again, I’ve gotten better at it. There are times where I just can’t seem to justify throwing out an expensive mascara if it’s not done yet, but I’ve gotten a few eye irritations after months of using the same tube, so I’ve learned my lesson. When you’re younger I don’t think you really understand that makeup has an expiry date, especially anything that goes near your eyes, but I’m luckily getting wiser as well as older.

Not Using An Eyeshadow Primer

I seriously can’t believe that I spent an hour on my makeup when I was 17 to only have the eyeshadow completely gone by the end of the day because of my oily lids. No one ever really talked about eyeshadow primer back then, but ever since discovering the Urban Decay Primer Potion I’ve never looked back. If only I had known then what I know now, I wouldn’t have been walking around with half worn off pink eyeshadow throughout the day.
