I have a fickle relationship with eyeshadow—some months I love it, others I can’t stand the idea of having to put it on and wear it throughout the day. Obviously, I’m currently going through an ‘I love it phase’ so I thought I’d talk a bit about the ones I’m excited to wear during the summer months.
Fenty Beauty Killawatt Foil Freestyle Highlighter in 7DayWknd/Poolside
I’ve wanted this palette for a while now and I’m happy to report that it doesn’t disappoint. The colours are the perfect summer hues for when you don’t want to go over the top, but still want your makeup to stand out. The formula is incredibly smooth and sheer (considering it’s supposed to be a highlighter), but I’ve found that you need to take a bit of extra care when using them as eyeshadows. They tend to melt a bit easier on oily lids than normal eyeshadows do, so I would definitely recommend layering on that primer beforehand.
Nars Duo Eyeshadow in Alhambra
This palette was another one I had been coveting for a while which I finally bought sometime last year. Seeing as there are two shades—a pink tone and a gold one—I tend to alternate between the two for summer and winter. The pink tone tends to be more for winter and the gold for summer as I find it goes better with my sun kissed skin. The Nars formula applies like a dream; it’s incredibly smooth and stays on all day without looking too chalky. It also doesn’t have as much fallout as I expected it to with the amount of pigmentation it offers. I’m hoping to try out a few more of their eyeshadows in the future because this palette has really impressed me.
Smashbox Cover Shot Eye Palette in Major Metals
This palette was pretty much the only thing I wore throughout winter even though the shades are fairly warm-toned. I just couldn’t get enough of the metallic shimmer they offered and had fun pairing each colour with one another—a darker one for the lid and a lighter one for the inner corner. The only colour I have to admit I don’t use all that often is the deep purple, but I’m sure I’ll find use for it some day.
As we approach the warmer months I’ve been gravitating more toward the lighter, more neutral shimmers for daily wear. They are incredibly easy to apply, however do have some fallout if you aren’t careful. But they last all day long and that’s basically all I really look for in a good eyeshadow.
What are your favourite eyeshadow colours for summer? I could use some suggestions.
