Lately I've been writing a lot about writing, and while that is the focus of my life right now and my passion, it's not a very diverse topic for a lifestyle blog. So for today's post I thought I would devote it to talking about the things I've been lusting after the past little while. Since spring has finally arrived in Toronto, I've been getting super excited for a warmer weather lifestyle - long walks without feeling like you'll freeze, dresses, light jackets, picnics in the park. You name it, I want to do it ASAP! The winter has felt incredibly long here and I'm just ready to take on the summer when it finally arrives; my last summer before I move to England to be with my boyfriend.
As someone who like social media, particularly Instagram, there are a lot of trends I've seen sprouting on my feed and I'm actually really loving them. I'm not one to fall victim to trends because I feel like they make me spend my money just to be forgotten in a few months, but the current French girl vibe, casual lifestyle hybrid that's been circulating has been my favourite style trend in a really long time. It's reminiscent of normcore, but with a more feminine edge to it, which is perfect for spring and summer. Here are a few things that I have and can't wait to enjoy or that I've been lusting after lately:
I just recently bought a pair of black flat mules with gold hardware and I am incredibly excited to wear them and for this trend. I'm someone that loves flats and hates laces or any annoying details that make slipping shoes on difficult. These are the perfect balance between casual and somewhat dressy and I feel like they can be paired with any kind of outfit.
I also want to invest in a pair of chunky heeled mules, preferably a pink or mustard yellow colour. I think those would look great with dresses or cropped pants this season.
I've always been a fan of black and white stripes, but now black and white polka dots have managed to catch my eye and I can't get enough of them, especially when paired with red and cold accents. I recently picked up a long polka dot romper from Urban Outfitters and I'm incredibly excited to finally be able to wear that out and about, but I still have a few more weeks to go before the weather is appropriate enough.
This pattern is very quintessentially 'French Girl' and I'm here for it and the image it evokes of sitting in a Parisian cafe in the middle of the day or riding a bike down cobblestone streets.
For the longest time I stayed away from gold jewelry, convinced that it didn't look good on my skin's undertones. I thought it would either make me look sickly or like a cast member of The Sporanos. However, as of late, I have changed my perception and absolutely love the gold trend that's taken over. There's something that feels very classic and clean about it, especially when paired with neutral colours, like black and white.
I have always loved matte lipsticks, but especially this time of the year where a nude lip is perfect for the warmer weather. My favourite ones are from NYX because they are both affordable and long-wearing. I'm currently really loving the terracotta colour, more towards orange undertones, paired with a black cat eye and a lightly blushed cheek.
The Writer Lifestyle
If I haven't mentioned it enough on this blog or my social media, I'm a writer. Day in, day out, I spend my time either at my desk writing for work, or on my bed writing for myself and literary publications. I have also started preparing to write a novel that's been bouncing around in my head for a while. I can honestly say that allowing myself to unapologetically dive into my writing has been a great change and the right decision for where I am in my life right now. I have so many feelings that I think are perfect for crafting fiction and personal essays, not to mention the ability to do it from wherever I want to. The backyard, a local coffee shop, a different country - the possibilities are endless and I hope to continue working towards this so that I can make it a permanent and full-time source of income in the near future.
