It's terrifying to accept the fact that it's already February. Where has the year gone and where will it inevitably go when I'm looking back on it 11 months from now? Fortunately, 2018 has taken off with a bang for me and has kept me fairly busy during the cold, dry winter weather when all I want to do is eat takeout and drink wine. So far, I've managed to familiarize myself with the industry I currently copy write for as well as leave my retail job so that I can focus on my writing and any future projects. I've also been planning/stressing over my impending move back to my parent's house as my boyfriend ventures over to the UK to open a new branch for his company.
Everything is happening quickly, but with purpose, and for that I am thankful. Without purpose I feel lost and unmotivated, lethargically pulling myself along this sometimes dreary road called life. With that being said, for today's post I thought I would talk about a few goals I've set for myself in 2018, if only to solidify them somewhere so that I can hold myself accountable in the upcoming months.
1) Growing My Freelance Writing Career
This year has started off an a great note with regards to my potential career. I use the word "career" hesitantly as I don't think your job or the work you do should dictate your life and the way others perceive it. However, when I left my full-time office job last year I promised myself that I wouldn't return to an office and that I would pursue writing (in any form) as a a means to make a living. So far, I've succeeded and I only hope to keep growing it from here. A few of my plans include building my client list of companies that need content writers as well as trying to get some of my fiction published in literary journals.
2) Move To England
I've mentioned this a few times before, but the biggest change of 2018 will be that my boyfriend (and subsequently I) will be moving to the UK. Everything is kind of up in the air right now, what with sponsorships and visas and all those technical aspects, but I hope to make the transition before the year is over, even if it's only for a 6 month period. I just want to make the change and confidently say that I started a new life abroad.
3) Save Money
This one doesn't have to be explained following goal number 2. The last year was full of a lot of ups and downs, so getting back on my feet will be good for my mental health and my motivation.
4) Do What Feels Good
I've given up caring what others think, but of course my parent's voices will always remain in the back of my mind, nudging me to follow their decisions for my life. 2018 is going to be all about doing what feels good and following my intuition because any time that I've done that in the past I've ended up exactly where I wanted to be. This also means that I have to stop forcing my way into something that might seem ideal in the moment, but that otherwise feels unnatural. I started out 2017 thinking that I could try hard to pursue blogging and that only led me to create content I didn't 100% believe in just to form a facade of a "blogger". No more of that; just passion from this point on.
5) Work Out Regularly
My boyfriend and I are moving out of our apartment at the end of this month so that he can get ready to leave the country and so that I can move back home with my parents and save a bit before joining him. This means that I'll once again have access to their treadmill, my favourite form of exercise. I am so genuinely excited to get back on it and form a regular workout routine that'll help me clear my mind and strengthen my body. I really can't remember the last time I had a proper, tiring workout and I'm so ready for it.
6) Read More
I've already started working on this goal because I realized that I was slacking a lot on reading. It used to be my favourite activity to pass the time a few years ago and then Netflix and Youtube became popular so I started making less and less time for it. I've already taken the leap and bought a bunch of great literature to kickstart the year and can't wait to dive into it and share it all on this blog.
What are your 2018 goals?
