Having been inspired by my new favourite blogger Diasybutter, I decided to start writing blog posts about the little things in life that make me happy. Too often I find myself complaining about things that are stressing me and out and I've noticed that it's easy to fall into that habit if you don't take a step back and look at the big picture. For this blog series I'm hoping to write about big and small pleasures in my life that are making the days feel that much brighter, especially during the winter months.
1) New Laptop
Knowing that I was going to start a new writing job this month that would involve moving between office and home a lot, I decided to take the leap and buy myself a new laptop to replace my 7 year old Macbook pro. I opted for the Macbook air because of how light it is and I couldn't be happier with the decision. I can stuff it into pretty much any bag I need for when I'm on the go.
2) Frank & Lola
One of my favourite things to do lately is discover new movies on Netflix. I usually go for the classics that most people like, but diving into a film that I know nothing about has been fun and helped broaden my interests. I was pleasantly surprised by Frank & Lola, seeing as I had no idea what I was getting into when I put it on. The plot is suspenseful, the acting is fantastic, and the overall theme is very intricate.
3) Smith's Rosebud Salve
Toronto's winter this year has been incredibly dry and completely destroying my lips. There was a period of time this month where I couldn't talk without feeling them crack. Terrifying. Luckily, I've had my Rosebud Salve with me pretty much everywhere I go. Truthfully, it's just scented vaseline, BUT it's in a portable tube that I can just throw in my bag or stuff in my pocket. I've been applying a thick layer on before bed and waking up to increasingly softer lips.
To that same point, my hands have also been incredibly dry. I usually gravitate to St. Ives and Aveeno hand creams, but for some reason they just weren't cutting it this year. So, I've been slathering on Glycomed every time my hands become a bit rough.
5) Peppermint Tea
I've loved peppermint tea for years, but there's been something so soothing about it this past month. I'll usually make a cup at night and sip it while perusing Netflix for my next film.
As I mentioned in a previous post, 2018 will be bringing on a lot of change for me. One of those changes is going to be moving back to my parents' house. Because of this I've had to start decluttering my current apartment and figuring out what I actually need to take with me and what I can throw out. This has been a great way to relieve stress while clearing out my space and, consequently, my mind.
What have you been loving?
