Perfume has always been a staple item and I find that it adds the finishing touches to any outfit. The search for a signature scent has always been a struggle for me because there are so many to try out, but once you find it it’s hard switching to anything else. For most of my life, I’ve stuck to one perfume, but have recently begun experimenting with other brands that have the same notes in their fragrances. Personally, I enjoy soft, sweet scents with a hint of musk. These seem to blend better with my natural scent and get me the most compliments from strangers. In this post I’ve discussed a few of my favourite perfumes and what I’ll be repurchasing in the coming months.
This perfume has been in my collection for the past 10 years. I was given it as a birthday gift in high school and the scent works so well with me that I haven’t been able to give it up, especially since it is incredibly cheap for a large bottle. I always get a nose crinkle when I tell someone it is by Paris Hilton, but the amount of compliments I have received from people outweighs that and I will probably be buying another bottle soon. So far it has been the perfect soft scent that I have been looking for, but seeing as it is such an old perfume, I fear that they will stop making so I have to look around for something similar.
BCBG MAX AZARIA
This was the first high end perfume I bought after my first pay check from my first job. A lot of firsts were involved in this purchase so that’s why I feel almost bad going through it, as strange as that may sound. While this isn’t my favourite perfume in my collection I still enjoy spraying it on every spring because of its light, fresh scent. However, as mentioned above, I tend to gravitate towards more soft, sweet scents. Even though I don’t reach for this every day, I still can’t bring myself to get rid of it because of how pretty and elegant the bottle is.
This was a random pickup I did at Sephora while trying to find a new signature scent. I chose this once because of its soft, sweet scent however there is an underlying hint of nuts or a deep musk that makes it more of a winter perfume. I haven’t used it at all this summer because of its rich tones, but plan on throwing it in my bag during the winter for when I’m on the run. I don't think this is one that I will be purchasing a full bottle of because of how musky it is, but I would recommend it for someone trying to dabble in these types of perfumes.
It was hard to come to this decision, but this perfume is my second favourite I have ever tried. And, strangely enough, it was chosen for me by my father. He happened to stop by the Estee Lauder counter during Christmas and asked the employee what scents are popular for younger women and was pointed to this collection. As soon as I tried it I knew I had to buy a full sized bottle. It is the perfect sweet scent for spring that works well on my skin. Needless to say I got a lot of compliments on it once I started integrating it into daily wear. However, my only complaint would be that it doesn’t last very long on the skin. Perhaps I picked up the eau de toilet and not the eau du perfume, so I’ll definitely be asking for that when I pick up another bottle.
As a perfume lover, I finally gave in and purchased the Holy Grail of perfumes; Chanel. I was originally thinking of going for the classic Chanel No. 5, but after a few tests I realized that it smelled too mature for me and the aesthetic I was going for. Maybe i'll start using that one in the future. However, Mademoiselle is the perfect combination between sweet and musky without being to overpowering in either scent. Unlike Estee Lauder, this perfume does last a while on the skin and clothes, so I know I can spray that on and leave the apartment. My only complaint with this perfume would be the price, which I should have expected when diving into this experience, but the smell of it was too nice to resist and now I am stuck in this cycle without really wanting to get out of it.
